Station Lifts About

About lift reliability data

Almost every lift in a National Rail station in the UK continuously reports its status via an Elevator Monitoring Unit (EMU).

Network Rail make this data freely available via their "NWR Lifts and Escalators" dataset. This site takes a snapshot of that data every ten minutes, for every lift that has an EMU. Data is available from 22 May 2025 onwards.

To my knowledge, nowhere else publishes lift reliability data at this level of detail. The Office of Rail and Road publishes some data, but only twice a year and aggregated by region.

I'm hopeful that these reports will be useful for people who need accurate information about how accessible the stations they use actually are, as well as campaigners and organisations fighting for better accessibility.

If you find this data useful or interesting, please contact me via the About page. I'd love to know how you're using it. You can also contact me with any questions, feedback or suggestions.

Accuracy

Because I only record each lift's status every ten minutes, some very short-lived faults might not show up in historical records. This doesn't apply to the live station pages, which will always show the latest status as reported by the EMU.

While I try to ensure this site is accurate, I can't accept any responsibility for any errors or inaccuracies. This is mostly because I have no control over the EMUs, and so the data shown here can only ever be as accurate as what they report. If you do spot any problems, please contact me via the About page.
